Written in 1915 by German composer, Richard Strauss, An Alpine Symphony is a tone poem— an orchestral work that tells a story or is based on a specific theme. The story depicted by An Alpine Symphony is a full day of climbing an Alpine mountain, starting with night and sunrise, and ending with sunset and the return of night again.
